The X-Files Rewatching marathon SEASON I

The X-Files is one of the most influent tv series of every time.

I personally consider it 'The Miami Vice of the 90' for its cultural relevance both in the 90’ and still today. In fact recently, after fifteen years from season nine finale, we just had a new miniseries of six episodes following the adventures of agent Mulder and Scully themself in today’s modern and hyper technological world.

Knowing that I decided to do a complete full immersion-rewatch of all the episodes and even the two movies before actually see the new mini serie.

So of course I’m starting from season one.

For those of you who don't know, the episodes are classified in mithology (which followes the principal plot of the show), monster-of-the-week and comedic episodes.

The mythology arc starts well but, as it goes on, it just went too silly and convoluted since around season six. It just makes no sense few times.

Below all the episodes in favourite descending order.

The mythological ones are separated from the others since, especially in this season, are almost on the same quality level for me, so basically the mythology gets the first place in my gradiment list!

1: "Pilot" (1) and "Deep Throat" (2) – First two episodes and we start with the mythology.  I appreciate them at the same level. This is just the beginning but here we can already find and appreciate the ABC of the X-Files: abductees, aliens, UFOs and expecially shady government organization behind the public scenes, that try to controll everything from information to science.

2: "The Erlenmeyer Flask" (24) - It's the perfect ending for the great start of the season's one Myth arc. You just can't not feel sorry for Deep Throat.

3: "Fallen Angel" (10) – All the mythological episodes in season I are on the same level of enjoyement for me but, in this episode, Mulder's character is yet eviscerated in his search for the truth and here he's even going to be arrested by the military forces trying to stop him and misdirect him.

4: "E.B.E." (17) – Here we find for the first time the Lone Gunmen group and their interaction with Scully is very funny. I loved those guys. Their friendship with Mulder and Scully is amazing.

5: "Conduit" (4) – This episode introduces Mulder's sister story arch.

2: "Ice" (8) - John Carpenter's "The Thing" is always on my mind while watching this episode. Scary and well made, it helps greatly to establish Mulder and Scully bond.

3: "Squeeze" (3) – First MOTW episode and one of the most iconic; Tooms is very, very creepy.

4: "Eve" (11) – In my opinion is the creepiest episode from season I. The little girls are just so unsettling. So cute but evil!

5: "Beyond the Sea" (13) – First episode in which Scully is the lead character. I loved it just because it reminds me a lot of the Silence of the Lambs, with the amazing X-files' paranormal touch.

6: "Roland" (23) – Another well made episode, with great actors and interesting plot.

7: "Fire" (12) – The psychotic that can burn things just using his mind is unsettling and this turned to be a standard but enjoyable MOTW episode.

8: "Ghost in the Machine" (7) – Silly yet enjoyable episode. Scully uses a marker to draw on a monitor...

9: "Gender Bender" (14) – The creepiest amish village made remarkable this episode. But all the gender transformations could been handed better.

10: "Darkness Falls" (episode 20) – In this one the monsters are little bugs, awaken by the human work in the forest, that attack and kill people in the absence of light. The idea and settings are of the right creepy degree, but the fact why they don't even try to start a fire - when running out of fuel for the electrical generator - always bothered me. Fire = light = not deadly eated till bone by those insects.

11: "Tooms" (21) – I am not a fan of the MOTW sequels and in fact this one was ok but still forgettable.

12: "Young at Heart" (16) – Mulder is facing an old criminal that he thought was dead. This one is weird but not in a good way, still has some good moments.

13: "Shadows" (6) – A young woman is haunted and helped by an invisible ghost. This is another forgettable episode.

14: "Lazarus" (15) – An FBI agent is possesed by the personality of a criminal. Nothing special.

15: "Miracle Man" (18) - I am not a fan of religious episodes, thus I really don't liked this one. A young boy is capables to do miracles, he is kind of a second messiah.

16: "Born Again" (22) – Pretty forgettable and tedius episode, this time is a young girl the focus. She is the reincarnation of a detective who was killed in his own aquarious and now wants revenge.

17: "Shapes" (19) – Unispired werewolf story, predictable and boring.

18: "The Jersey Devil" (5) – This episode is not scary nor funny and super predictable. One of the worst from the season on my opinion.

19: "Space" (9) – I always fall asleep while watching this episode. The idea is ok I guess, but poorly executed. And I personally put it on the last position just because of the fact that for me it is so... boring that I actually couldn't ever finish to watch it! Talks about an ex astronaut who was possessed (or just super scared Idk) by sort of a spiritual-alien entity from Mars (sounds almost awesome, but it's not). And scared by that entity tries to sabotage the shuttle's mission program. The main allusion is regarding the face which is visible on Mars surface from satellites.
