HOUSE M.D. SEASON 1: INTRO + THE BEST EPISODES!
I definitely want to do a
series of posts on my favorite TVseries and how not to start with House M.D.?!
Since a few days ago I finished reviewing the first season, I thought I would
do here a list of my favorite episodes and I would really like to know what the
others think are the best episodes of this first season!
I loved this serie since the
first random episode that I happened to watch on television; not only for the
medical diagnostic part of the serie - which in itself is a good reason to
watch it and love it - but also for the characters of the show, first of all of
course Dr. Gregory House, the right doctor for "diagnosis almost
impossible."
In fact, the protagonist is
a character so cynical and brutally honest to be disarming and an asshole, no
half measures. Perhaps is for his manner of doing so questionable that many
love the character, whose characterization and evolution are phenomenal and
worthy of the great success that the series has had.
The series, set in a
hospital, is built around diagnostic cases of diseases quite rare if not
unique, and in each episode we see the unfolding of the various differential
diagnoses for the case. In fact, each of them focuses exclusively on a patient
and their differential diagnosis, which is elaborated by House with his medical
team, to be able to understand what is the real problem and be able to treat it
(when possible). In addition there are also some interesting patients in the
clinic of the hospital in which House must, like other doctors, do tot hours
per week, albeit mostly he have to deal with "common boring
diagnosis".
The first season consists of
22 episodes.
My
favorites:
-not in
liking order-
# 2 "Paternity" is
a very interesting episode, with a final diagnosis of subacute sclerosing
panencephalitis, disease caused by the measles virus mutated in the brain
tissue of the patient.
# 4 "Maternity"
this is another episode really nice, both from the diagnostic point of view and
the clinical cases, and from a more human one. The characters are outlined more
and is introduced a possible background of Dr. Cameron, one of the three doctor
of the House's team. The Diagnosis: Echovirus 11, there was an epidemic in the
maternity ward of the hospital.
# 5 "Damned if you
do" perhaps more to the case report this episode is great for the history
of the patient and how faith influences and make the characters react. The
diagnosis: allergy to copper unleashed by years of exposure.
# 6 "The Socratic
Method" is a clinical case really interesting, I really liked this episode
for the differential diagnosis, as the team come to the diagnosis of the patient,
her story and that of his son. Diagnosis: Wilson's disease, deficiency of
vitamin K and cancer in the liver.
# 10 "Histories"
in this episode, the patient is a homeless whose diagnosis is rabies. But the
best part is his story is how she became a homeless, what she lost, who is
James who always tries to found. Foreman takes to heart her situation and tries
to help her track down James.
# 13 "Cursed" the
patient is a boy who has an infection caused by Bacillus anthracis, Anthrax,
wich is caused by an immune deficiency due to Leprosy, previously contracted by
the father. It 'an interesting episode because Chase's father comes to town to
see Dr. Wilson since he has Lung Cancer and he just have a few months more to
live; but he chooses not to make this known to his son since the two have never
had a simple relationship. House knows about it and would like to tell Chase,
but after talking to him about his relationship with his father, prefers not to
tell him anything.
# 18 "Babies &
Bathwater" is a very touching episode of a mother ready to die to let
survive her little baby in her belly. Unfortunately eventually she will die
because of a Small-cell Lung Carcinoma.
# 19 "Kids" is a
very impressing episode, which left me with a bitter taste in the mouth;
sometimes confront certain realities is not easy, it leaves an impression,
precisely: a feeling. The diagnosis is Moschcowitz syndrome (thrombotic
thrombocytopenic purpura TTP).
# 21 "Three
Stories" definitely goes to the first place among my favorite episodes!
Because the narrative is fantastic, the expedient of a lecture taken by House
to young specializing doctors is just an amazing idea to tell the story in a
different way. House presents to the class three different clinical cases (with
a leg problem in common) of patients treated, the third of which is House
himself. But it is discovered only later, in fact we see initially the third
patient being represented by an act of House's imagination, which gives a
fictitious identity to himself. It's a fun episode, but also very heavy in some
senses. We understand how House got there where he is, why he has become so
miserable in a certain way. Why is unhappy. It 's definitely an episode carrier
for the plot of the main character. In addition, the way we live the episode is
special and makes it rewarding. The favorite of the favorite episodes of the
first season! The diagnosis of the three patients: patient 1 Necrotizing
fasciitis; patient 2 Adenoma; patient 3 (House) Necrosis of part of the
muscular tissue of the leg.
What
do you think guys?
Which
are your favorite episodes?
